Gerberas and Carnations

The open flower heads of gerberas contrast with the densely layered petals of carnations, bringing varied shapes and textures to the mix. Santini is grown in white, yellow, green and purple varieties, and its flowers often have contrasting centres. Mini gerberas need shallow water; 4–5 cm is enough, as deeper immersion softens their hollow stems and speeds up rotting. Carnations rank among the longest-lived cut flowers, with a usual vase life of 14 to 21 days. Greenery forms the base into which the flowers are tied, adding volume, shape and colour contrast to the bouquet.
