Staré Heřminovy lies about 4 km south-south-east of Horní Benešov. It is part of the Slezská Harta Microregion.

Staré Heřminovy was first mentioned in 1338, and the name element Staré distinguishes it from the younger settlement of Nové Heřminovy. A chateau dating from before 1685 stands in the centre of the village and developed from a bailiff's seat. It was remodelled in the Baroque style and later acquired a Neoclassical appearance. The Church of St Wenceslas stands nearby, and the village belonged to Horní Benešov from 1978 to 1990.
