Široká Niva lies in the Nízký Jeseník region along the Opava River, about 8 km north of Bruntál. It has around 550 residents.

The village's landmark is the Baroque Church of St Martin, built in 1718–1721 and decorated by A. Griepel, a court painter to the Liechtenstein family. The municipal office is housed in a villa built in 1904–1907 for local doctor Oskar Hanisch. The Kunov Nature Reserve extends into the village and is a floodplain forest along the Opava where ostrich fern grows.
