Oborná lies about 3 km north-east of Bruntál, beside road I/45, and has around 440 residents. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1405; it was formerly called Spillendorf and has had its present name since 1947. Oborná was part of Bruntál from 1961 to 1991 and has been an independent municipality since 1992. The village has a nursery school and a multi-purpose sports ground.
