Lichnov lies south-west of Krnov in the foothills of the Nízký Jeseník range. It has about 1,060 residents. The municipality consists of the parts Lichnov and Dubnice.

The first written reference to Lichnov dates from 1340, and its German name Lichtenau meant a bright meadow. The Baroque Church of St Nicholas was built in 1733 by the master builder Georg Friedrich Gans from Krnov. Lichnov is home to the Pitchfork Museum, whose collection was founded by Jan Gemala and contains more than a thousand exhibits from different countries. A mineral spring near the cultural centre was restored in 2014, and the village has a primary school and a nursery school.
